Dear Nitobe College students,

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak the end of the 2019 academic year was rather confusing and perhaps disappointing. Unfortunately, the 2020 academic year is also starting in a strange and unstable manner.

Our graduates have already moved on to their new lives. Graduates, you may have been disappointed the you were not able to spend the end of the year or graduation with your friends or kohai. However, if you look back you will find many, many memories of your time at Hokudai. These will become your strength in your future.

Of course, we know that our current students would like to continuing to make memories with classmates and friends. However, we also know that, right now, it is best for our students to stay at home as much as possible. Please do not go to any places where there are large groups of people in small areas. We understand that you may feel anxious or worried about your health, family, and future. This is a normal reaction to a new and unusual situation.

We understand your worries and hope to support you. We ask you to take good care of yourself. Stay home and don’t go where there are large groups of people in confined spaces. Please get enough sleep, eat healthy, and wash your hands with soap for 20∼30 seconds. Check in with friends and family by SNS or video call. It might be hard for you to fill the extra time at home, so this might be a good time to catch up on reading or to start a new hobby.

We are looking forward to the day when we can meet and study together again.

Please take care of yourselves!
