Foundation Program

AY 2023

1. Eligibility

Students who are enrolled in Hokkaido University’s master’s or professional degree programs.

2. Enrollment

[Spring Enrollment]  Approximately 60 students
*If the number of applicants exceeds its capacity, students may be accepted in the Fall enrollment.
[Fall Enrollment]  Approximately 60 students

3. Application Requirements

(1) Submit the Statement of Purpose (about 400 words)
Complete and submit the form with a good understanding of the program’s principle and educational goals.
Describe the reasons for your application for this program in relation to: (1) your intellectual interests; (2) knowledge and skills that you aspire to attain or develop at the program; and (3) your future vision.

(2) Take the TOEIC-IP Test(Online)

<Alternative to taking the TOEIC-IP Test>
Exemption may apply if applicants submit one of the following designated score reports fulfilling conditions ① and ②.

1. Score Report designated by the program:TOEIC L&R,TOEIC-IP, TOEFL-iBT,TOEFL-ITP,IELTS

2. Condition:
①Must be taken within the last two years, based on the date of TOEIC-IP test.
②Must be an electronic copy of TOEIC-IP Score Report or TOEIC L&R Official Score Certificate and equals includes your name and score.(Electronic copy of online display is NOT accepted.)

3. Submission:
①Submit the report as a form attachment.
(Please prepare an electronic file (PDF etc.) of the score report before completing the form in order to submit the report as a form attachment.)
②Those who are unable to attach their score report to the application form must submit the score report in person at the Window No. 6, Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education.

<Applicable Exemption of taking the TOEIC-IP Test>
Exemption may apply if applicants are true for either of the following.
① Official language of their country of nationality is English
② Nitobe College alumni who awarded title of Cum Laude or higher
③ Integrated Science Program (ISP) students in master’s course

5. Requirements for Enrollment

Students who wish to enroll in the Foundation Program for Graduate Students must fulfill the following requirements.

  1. Pass the enrollment screening after assessment of statement of purpose described in the Application Form.
  2. Take the TOEIC-IP TEST and score 700 (*equivalent to TOEFL-iBT 76, TOEFL-ITP 540, IELTS 5.0) or higher.
  3. Submit the confirmation of enrollment in Nitobe College after announcement of results.
    *As supervisor’s signature is required, please obtain his/her approval in advance.

6. Notification of Screening Results

Applicants will be notified of the screening results by e-mail by following the schedule. Admitted students will then be informed of further details about the program.

Honors Program

AY 2023

1.Eligibility

Students who completed the Foundation Program for Graduate Students or expected to complete the program.

2.Enrollment

[Spring Enrollment]  Approximately 30 students
[Fall Enrollment]  Approximately 30 students

3.Requirements for Enrollment

  1. Students who completed or expected to complete the Foundation Program make an enrollment application for the Honors Program, and are granted permission of enrollment after screening; and
  2. Submission of the confirmation of enrollment in Nitobe College after announcement of results.
    *As supervisor’s signature is required, please obtain his/her approval in advance.

4.Application Procedure and Application Period

Complete the Application Form and submit it.

5.Screening Procedure

Successful applicants will be selected based on academic achievement of Foundation I and Foundation II.

6.Notification of Screening Results

Applicants will be notified of the screening results by e-mail by following the schedule. Admitted students will then be informed of further details about the program.

7.Scholarship for Nitobe College Honors Program

If you wish to apply for the scholarship for Nitobe College Honors Program, please refer to the Support System for more details.

Information session for prospective students of the Foundation Program for Graduate Students will be held as follows to provide information including course contents and application procedures.

We look forward to the active participation of those who are interested in admission to the program.

Note

  • Students who intend to apply MUST attend the information session on either of the above dates.
  • Students who are unable to attend either session must collect handouts at window No.6, Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education after Tuesday, October 3, or download the documents.
