I am interested in the health and nutrition of local populations; specifically, the nutritional status, physical activity, and dietary intake of vulnerable subpopulations such as children, elderly and people with disabilities. I have been conducting fieldwork for around 25 years in the Pacific Islands, Africa and Asian countries including Japan.

I am focusing my research on carbon cycling, nitrogen cycling, stream nutrient runoff and greenhouse gas emissions from agroecosystems. Ooi Kock TEH

I am a plant scientist specialising in cell biology.I received my primary
education in Malaysia and subsequently achieved my doctorate in Plant Sciences from Oxford University in the UK. My postgraduate studies focussed on the movement of proteins in plant cells which has implications in growth, immune responses and development. I then went on to research in major plant science laboratories in Japan, Sweden and Germany. I have received fellowships from Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and Alexander von Humboldt foundation to carry out my research. My current research interest is understanding the switch of cell fate in moss development.

It is relatively easy to distinguish the “right” from the “wrong”; it is however very challenging to differentiate between the “right” and the“seemingly right”. Being capable of critical thinking is a life-long beneficial requisition.
